January 24 'soft updateI don't normally write about work on here - but to update people who have asked. Our group was not included in the recent layoffs. People around us, and people I've known thru my career were laid-off - and it's impacting us all in different ways. The person who's responsible for giving me my start out there, Mikky, was part of the round 1 - he's a good guy and brilliant - know he'll be back. So I am still drinking the Kool Aid and love the company, my team and what I do every day - just sad to see people leave - and am planning lunch for when they're back. update: turns out another manager that brought me in when I contracted is also one of the laid-off... sigh. January 21 PartnerIn the quest for fitness and to NOT have to buy another size-up wardrobe, Gabe got us going to the gym...which led me to going to the ProClub (where the 'soft helps with membership costs) and eventually to me just jumping on the 20/20 boat.
Week 1 just completed and in addition to good weight loss (and 2 belt notches down) I gained more appreciation for how lucky I am that I have such a great partner.
When I called to tell her the number this morning she teared up on the phone - and has been going thru the carb loss/calorie counting/chicken grilling/frozen fruit eating/ shake drinking...and more shake drinking...and more shake drinking right along with me - that's support, dedication and love. (trust me the shakes lose their appeal quickly).
For the past year I've felt really lucky to have her as my partner. I'm pretty damn lucky.
January 14 Utter Wonder is on a rollit's nice to know I won't be alone in hell... the utterwonder blogger will be there with me
January 02 more from FacebookFacebook friend that I followed thru gradeschool and then high school posted this video on Facebook.

January 01 Signpost for the New YearGabe asked why I don't post over here much anymore - mainly it's just easier to putter in Facebook and the new Live interface makes it re-frickin-diculous to one click to Spaces. But, while we're waiting for my pal Robin to come over and Guitar Hero (World Tour for Wii) with us... I grew up in a house where no matter what, the fridge was the place things went - Hagar the Horrible and Sally Forth were some of the favorite cartoons that my mom would clip and post amongst the magnets from trips and pictures. It was a space that got used and signified that the family was alive and moving forward while capturing moments from the past. It was mercurial and a signpost. Other favorite memories of the coppertone kenmore include my father yelling into it - usually something about food going bad unless my mother cooked it as soon as possible...and my mother responding with a question about his arms being broken and why couldn't he cook it himself - or later a Hagar the Horrible cartoon that summed up her view of their dynamic. It was also the place she proudly placed her "support your right to arm bears" bumper sticker at eye level to greet folks when they walked in the door. A few years ago my mom finally bought a new fridge - retiring the almost 40 year old coppertone. She told me on the phone that she was not going to cover this one in stuff... that lasted a couple of months. It is the epicenter of the house and it remains a signpost. When I first met Gabe and went to her house, I was very envious of the chalkboard fridge. While washing dishes tonight, heard her writing on the chalkboard - and then snapped this picture. December 07 ...things one does not expect to read from their mother in email."Rick bought an Aborigine Penis Bag from one of the dealers today. I have Penis Bag Envy because, had I known it was for sale (30.00) I would have bought it. They wore the bags to protect themselves. It's very unique."
in case anyone wondered where I get my 'personality' from.
though honestly I'm relieved she didn't get the bag - can you imagine the emails while she tries to find shoes to match? November 27 the true meaning of ThanksgivingThanksgiving makes me one of those people who hates the holidays everyone else seems enraptured by...I have yet to understand the draw and passion around this holiday. For my little family of 3 growing up it was not one of the more pleasant holidays...as anything that got in the way of deer hunting season was to be rendered miserable and endured...and being that the calendar couldn't be changed to move Thanksgiving to say May or August...it just was a lame holiday.
I have plenty "spirit of Thanksgiving" stories and even events that made one year better than another once I hit adulthood - but my level with the holiday is always a polite distain.
Tho my favorite thing last year was hearing from Ferris and the same this year. Means the world to me that Ferris is still in my life.
A close second is that Gabe and I are trying to figure out how to make the mashed potatos using the mixer...and I just remembered my posting of Snoop Dogg and Martha making mashed potatos using the mixer...
Snoop Dogg - the new meaning of Thanksgiving...will also need to sharpen the 'shank' for carving the turkey.
Peace Out.
November 11 ...it's going to be a long dayI love where I work - we're all about what you know, not what you wear, look-like or can you speak in complete thoughts.
I forget how cool we are sometimes until we have visitors and just take it for granted.
You can spot a visitor by the sticker badge they have to wear...that and they always seem a little skittish. Today I'm kickin back in jeans, my cole haan boots, zip navy sweater and oxford...and feel rather dressed up.
So as all good MSFT stories start...I'm in the bathroom - and there's lots of chattering (another sign of visitors - FTE seem to have the common sense to hold chattering for the halls) that stops when I walk out to wash my hands (as people need to do a little more of around here after using the bathroom...but I digress). The chattering white-sticker-herd leave...and I round the corner to walk out and into the hall..where I meet another of the white-sticker wearers who instantly looks at her feet, starts to apologize and then runs out the door...where she stops and looks at the room identifier, then looks at me, back at the door marker, back to me, back to the door and says "oh crap."

November 04 CedricDriving home from an election party full of friends - kept thinking about Cedric and what he'd think.
VOTE!One of my exes recently sent me a mail to remind me to vote.
She LOVES to vote.
Turning 18 so she could vote was a bigger deal to her than turning 21 and by the time we we together her love of the vote only became more pronounced. I think she even had lucky voting underwear and would put on full regalia and lipstick in prep for the vote. Each primary and election we would walk from our apartment to the voting place - and then have dinner - it was always a big process full of ritual and celebration (Clinton years and all).
When her folks split her dad thru a verbal spar with her mom that included "and I voted for Nixon."
When we split I somehow felt it was a good thing to say that all the years we went to vote I just stood in the booth and didn't do anything - there are very few things that could've hurt her more. And so she took to slamming me by calling me "a secret non-voter."
Made me chuckle when she brought back up the "secret non-voter" phrase in her mail - and will post my ballot photo this weekend where I took special pride in selecting Obama - Biden.
So unless you want me to turn you over to a rabid voter...- make sure you vote today. October 23 Opie, Richie, Andy and the Fonzwell alright then..
See more Ron Howard videos at Funny or Die October 20 Hey! Anyone got a pen light? It's getting pretty dark in here ...
